There are no plans, at this time, for Deltrian to manufacture mouth masks for children. But the Fleurus company offers solutions.

Since Friday, there has been a rush for mouth masks for children. This is the consequence of the decision of the CoDeCo which decided that the youngest should, from the age of 6, wear them in class. This is not without causing supply problems, at least at the moment. Eyes turn to Deltrian society. In 2020, faced with the shortage of masks at the height of the pandemic, Wallonia had formed with the company based in Fleurus, a company dedicated to the production of masks.
Hence the question: will she now switch to a new type of production specific to the youngest? The answer is nuanced.
"For the time being, it has not been decided to produce masks for children at home. "
— Jean Kalyvas, Marketing Manager of Deltrian
He gives several reasons for this decision.
First, one of the four production lines for adult masks would have to be adapted.
"However, after a period when only one line was still in operation, the four are currently in almost complete production. "

Adaptation would also require a new investment that should at least be recouped. It remains to be seen whether the wearing of the mask imposed on children will last beyond the end of the Christmas holidays. Finally, the market is likely to respond to demand fairly quickly.
The company wants to be cautious, but it nevertheless intends to continue to meet the needs of society. Already on Saturday, at the Rive Gauche shopping complex in Charleroi, it distributed masks completed by “buddies”, these small devices which allow the elastics to be tightened behind the ears to adjust the mask to the face.
"For the moment, our idea is to offer packs of 15 citizen masks, washable 25 times, with the addition of buddies. This will allow children to be protected throughout the school year at little cost. "
— Jean Kalyvas, Marketing Manager of Deltrian
Another avenue considered by Deltrian is to produce adult masks whose cords would be shortened.
"We also approached three of our suppliers who could perhaps provide us with masks for children which will not only have to meet legal standards, but also those that we impose on our own products. "
— Jean Kalyvas, Marketing Manager of Deltrian
A more global solution, as we understand, will depend on the evolution of the pandemic and the resulting economic context.
For the past few weeks, the mask production activity has resumed clearly at Deltrian. This is the consequence of the health measures taken by the authorities with the resurgence of the pandemic.
"Our maximum capacity is 1.5 million per week. We are at 1 million. Two teams – around twenty people – run the production lines, compared to a maximum of three. Two other areas of activity are experiencing a peak: air purifiers (integrating a virucide) and CO2 detectors "to legal standards. "
